The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently published the sixth edition of the Climate Change Assessment Report. It shows that CO2 emissions have continued to increase over the last decade. If this trend is not reversed, the commitment made in the Paris agreement of a maximum temperature increase of 1.5°C will not be met.
In this context, renewable energy sources play a key role in reducing air pollution. For this reason, many companies are already accelerating their plans to abandon greenhouse gas emissions. Among them is the Loro Parque group, which is getting closer and closer to achieving energy self-sustainability.
For years, we have had our own photovoltaic park located in the south of Tenerife and we have 2.75 MW of photovoltaic power, which means that we no longer emit more than 2,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. In addition, in Gran Canaria, we have a 150 KW plant at the Poema del Mar aquarium and a 4 MW wind turbine, which is our main source of renewable energy.
It is worth mentioning that the company’s most innovative project includes the installation of a new photovoltaic plant that increases the total power to 10MW, making us a 100% self-sustainable energy business group.
